CASE 850M dozer works from cut-and-fill to fine grading, and offers benefits — from acquisition to resale — of factory-fit machine control.

Dirt work is in Brian Golden’s blood — and the connection to each generation of his family is present every day at MacMor Construction LLC. Founded in 2013 and named after his daughters — Mackenzie and Morgan — MacMor started as a three-man crew and has grown into a sitework and heavy highway powerhouse with 46 full-time employees.

“My father was a general superintendent back in the day,” explains Golden. “He’s actually still involved today — he’s come on and he runs the field operations for me now. This has been something that’s been in my blood forever, and it’s just, I like the work. I like the equipment, I like dealing with the owners… It’s just what I do.”

Casey Havemann loves to get his hands dirty. He learned to ride a quad at the age of 2, and has grown up around machinery his entire life. Five years ago, his older brother got involved in the JB Dewar Tractor Restoration Education Program and entered a restored Oliver Cletrac tractor/dozer into the annual competition at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles. Casey was so impressed that he wanted to restore a tractor on his own, and that year he restored a 1959 David Bradley tractor. He was only 12 years old.

“I tore down the whole thing and painted it and then put all new parts on it. I had lots of fun rebuilding that tractor,” Casey says. “One year later, I started on my 1951 Farmall Super C, which taught me so much more about motors and transmissions. I was really excited and happy I was finally a part of the Tractor Restoration Education Program.”

CASE Construction Equipment offers a preview of the new 850N dozer — the first in the upcoming all-new N Series dozer line. Packed with advanced features, the 850N represents the next phase in electro-hydraulic controls in small- to medium-sized dozers. “The expansion of electro-hydraulic controls into smaller, more compact dozers provides operators a level of control versatility and customization they have not previously seen in CASE dozers of this size,” says Nathaniel Waldschmidt, product marketing manager, CASE. “These intuitive controls allow for on-the-fly adjustment of factors such as blade, steering and shuttle sensitivity, as well as overall easier operation with reduced operator fatigue, as the new controls require less physical input than traditional dozer controls.”

ACI Construction (Logan, Utah) is the latest evolution of a long running family business. Dad, Sid Crookston, started pouring concrete at age 15 with his father, who also had deep roots in the construction industry. Sid Crookston’s sons, Chris and Alden Crookston, and Bronson Twitchell, re-branded dad’s business nearly three years ago. Sid Crookston is angling towards retirement and has taken a role as an equipment operator, advisor and all-around sage, while the three boys are responsible for much of the day-to-day business operations.

The company is currently working on the third phase of a 23-lot, 15-acre subdivision called Providence Hollow in Logan, Utah. The neighborhood is being constructed into the side of a foothill, which brings its challenges. The company is responsible for the roads, sewer, drain lines, retention ponds, gutters and sidewalks for the community.

The easy-to-use system allows operators to set a desired slope/grade reference, and automatically holds that slope/grade without the need for lasers, masts or GPS—regardless of underfoot conditions—enabling both seasoned and less-experienced operators to easily achieve and maintain a smooth surface, slope or grade throughout the work area.
