CASE Announces PT240D Pneumatic Tire Roller for Asphalt Paving Industry

CASE Construction Equipment has announced the all-new Tier 4 Final PT240D pneumatic tire roller. With an operating weight of 21,380 pounds (52,910 pounds at full ballast), a turbocharged 100-horsepower Deutz engine and a compaction width of 78.2 inches, the PT240D is built for sub-base and asphalt compaction on large-scale road and highway projects, airport runways and other large commercial developments. This pneumatic tire roller is designed to achieve compaction in fewer passes and provide improved penetration and compaction density ideal for today’s asphalt paving applications requiring tight density tolerances.

The tire configuration (four in front, four in back) with two-inch tire overlap “kneads” hot mix asphalt gently at the surface as it rolls across it. The result is greater asphalt density and fewer possibilities for voids that can lead to flaws/deterioration. The PT240D is designed to handle up to 31,530 pounds of ballast — including steel, sand and water — to meet the compaction requirements of any job. A large polyethylene water tank supplies a pressurized water feed system to prevent asphalt from sticking to the tires — and, at 103 gallons, allows operators to run for longer periods of time without refilling.

2020 Annual Report & Forecast Shows Optimism for Year Ahead

CASE Construction Equipment partners each year with Construction Equipment magazine to present the Annual Report & Forecast, a look at the year ahead in the construction industry from the perspective of fleet managers, as well as businesses in transportation infrastructure, residential construction, non-residential construction and water infrastructure.

Rod Sutton, editorial director of Construction Equipment, introduces the 2020 report as follows:

The Pre- and Post-Operation Equipment Inspection Checklist

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” – old Ben Franklin wasn’t a heavy equipment operator or fleet manager, but he might as well have been when he first said those famous words.

The following list leans on Franklin’s wisdom. By taking the following steps each day pre- and post-operation, equipment owners and operators will prevent bad things from happening before they turn into costly downtime events, and will ensure that fleet managers can address concerns in equipment health and upkeep at times throughout the day with the least impact on productivity.

Semper Fi Land Services: Tips for Growing a Successful Business

Robert Velazquez —founder of Semper Fi Land Services in Aurora, Ill.—is not your average business owner. He started his landscaping business in 2004 when he was still a teenager, fresh out of Marine Corp. training. Like many, his first landscaping jobs involved doing most, if not all, of the work himself while rounding up borrowed trucks and equipment, but today he runs a flourishing business with a large fleet of equipment and 35 employees.

Starting a business like Semper Fi wasn’t without its challenges. After building his customer base throughout 2004 and 2005, Velazquez got news that he was being deployed. “I was in the Marine Corps reserves, and we got notified that we were being deployed to Iraq,” Velazquez explains. “So all the customers I had built up from 2004 and 2005, I just sent them a letter saying, ‘Hey, I have an obligation. I’m going to Iraq, I’ll be back in a year.’ Didn’t really close the business, but put it on hold. Came back, sent them a letter and said, ‘Hey, I’m back, and I’m going to start my business again.’ Many of those customers I have still today.”

North America: SV212 Walkaround

The CASE SV212 provides a low center of gravity and adjustable frequency and amplitude to provide excellent performance on grades, and more efficient compaction in all applications. A sloping rear hood and a seat that swivels 50 degrees provides great visibility and control when compacting in either forward or reverse.
