Lamonte Williams built his business from scratch and now clears the way for continued growth and development in the region.
Lamonte Williams is a self-made man who, in witnessing the growth and development of his hometown, set out to build a business as a trusted land clearing contractor.
ACI Construction (Logan, Utah) is the latest evolution of a long running family business. Dad, Sid Crookston, started pouring concrete at age 15 with his father, who also had deep roots in the construction industry. Sid Crookston’s sons, Chris and Alden Crookston, and Bronson Twitchell, re-branded dad’s business nearly three years ago. Sid Crookston is angling towards retirement and has taken a role as an equipment operator, advisor and all-around sage, while the three boys are responsible for much of the day-to-day business operations.
The company is currently working on the third phase of a 23-lot, 15-acre subdivision called Providence Hollow in Logan, Utah. The neighborhood is being constructed into the side of a foothill, which brings its challenges. The company is responsible for the roads, sewer, drain lines, retention ponds, gutters and sidewalks for the community.
Carl Faulkner began his career in the cab of his father’s excavator over 30 years ago. Working for his father’s company at a young age, and staying in the trade all these years, Faulkner decided to start his own company in 2012. Located in Imperial, Missouri, Faulkner Excavating specializes in site development, clearing and infrastructure work for residential and commercial sites in Jefferson and St. Louis Counties.
“Most commonly we do subdivisions,” explains Faulkner. “We’ll do the excavating for subdivisions, we’ll install the infrastructure of the sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water mains, the services to reach each lot. We’ll also do commercial lots.”
CASE Construction Equipment dealer Titan Machinery donated the use of two excavators to Team Rubicon for a service project and training event at the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge in Iowa and Nebraska. The excavators—a CX210C and CX250D—were used to remove several levees and water culverts as part of a wetland habitat development project.
Managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the 8,362-acre refuge is located along the Missouri River floodplain and provides essential habitat for resident, migratory and endangered species. Team Rubicon has a partnership with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to create training opportunities for their volunteers, and the organization has worked on several habitat management and mitigation projects in refuges all over the United States.
