Sonsray Machinery Supports Team Rubicon Wildland Fire Cleanup in Las Vegas

CASE Construction Equipment dealer Sonsray Machinery donated the use of a CASE TV380 compact track loader for a wildland fire and wind damage response operation in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs is a 2,040-acre park on the north side of Las Vegas. Centered around a group of small natural lakes, this oasis in the Mojave Desert is a popular outdoor recreation spot for travelers and local residents. The easternmost area of the park is a wooded area with established trails which has been plagued with reoccurring wildfires and subsequent damage from windstorms. Team Rubicon deployed a limited-scale disaster response task force as a follow-up to an initial operation that took place in 2018.

CASE, Sonsray Machinery Provide Team Rubicon with Equipment for California Wildfire Response

CASE Construction Equipment and Sonsray Machinery have donated the use of a CX80C excavator to Team Rubicon for Operation Wind River, a response to the wildfires that burned more than 23,000 acres between Orange and Riverside Counties in California.

Operation Wind River assisted residents in the Robin Hood Oaks community, located in Lake Elsinore, California. After the wildfire was contained in mid-September, the community experienced heavy rainfall leading to mudslides that filled with decomposed granite and sand. Additional rain caused flooding that severely damaged three homes.

Anatomy of an Independent Equipment Rental Fleet

John Sherlock’s story is one of evolution. Sherlock owns Sherlock Equipment in Bremerton, Washington – serving the Kitsap Peninsula with compact track loaders, mini excavators — and growing now to include dozers, mid-sized excavators and backhoes. Sherlock himself was a contractor until 2011, when he transitioned into short line equipment sales and, eventually, equipment rental in 2014.

“We saw the need for good quality rental equipment in the area, and we try to supply our customers with the best equipment we can get,” says Sherlock.

CASE Construction Equipment, and heavy equipment dealers Titan Machinery and Sonsray Machinery, donated the use of skid steers, a compact track loader and an excavator to veteran-led disaster response organization Team Rubicon for Operation Big Iron — a disaster cleanup operation in response to the “Tinder Fire”, which swept across more than 500 acres in Coconino County, Arizona.

Team Rubicon volunteers provided heavy equipment operations, debris removal and sawyer services to affected communities. The organization deployed 40 members who logged a total of 2,592 hours on the operation. Team Rubicon’s heavy equipment operators used the equipment to help move more than 54,130 cubic feet of debris. Volunteers saved the community an estimated total of $74,784.38 in cleanup, materials and labor.

Sonsray Machinery Donates Heavy Equipment to Team Rubicon for Operator Training in San Diego National Wildlife Refuge

CASE Construction Equipment, Sonsray Machinery, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Team Rubicon teamed up for a heavy equipment operator training and improvement project at the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge. Sonsray Machinery provided four machines – two CX80C excavators and two SR210 skid steer loaders – and Team Rubicon brought in four instructors and nine volunteers from across the U.S. for the event, which involved classroom instruction as well as practical hands-on training in safety and machine operation.

Located on the southern rim of San Diego Bay, the Refuge is an important stopover for migratory birds, and supports a diverse array of natural habitats for a variety of wildlife including rare birds, butterflies and other wildlife that are critical to the area’s ecosystem. In addition to training nine new heavy equipment operators, Team Rubicon also made improvements to an access road, and removed over 50 tons of concrete from an old dairy complex within the Refuge.

CASE and Sonsray Machinery Assist Team Rubicon During National Day of Service

CASE Construction Equipment and Sonsray Machinery provided equipment and product training support for a Team Rubicon operation and land-clearing project at the “Family Camp at Yosemite”, run by the City of San Jose Parks and Recreation Department, in Groveland, California. Several days of equipment training throughout the week culminated in the Team Rubicon & Tough Mudder National Day of Service—a nationwide event bringing together volunteers from Team Rubicon, Tough Mudder and other organizations. A total of 60 volunteers from Team Rubicon participated in the event, ten of which are new operators participating in the heavy equipment training program.

Located just ten miles from the western gate of Yosemite National Park, the Family Camp at Yosemite—leased from the U.S. Forest Service and operated by the City of San Jose, California—sits on 47 acres of land in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The camp provides an all-inclusive outdoor experience for the families of San Jose and offers fishing, hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities in the serene backdrop of the Stanislaus National Forest.
